Rob,

I understand now, point clarified and a good suggestion.

Taking this further, should we consider an over arching network name? I
understand we won't be operating in a domain structure but should we
have nodes that are part of a network group for clarity? I'm not
suggesting the group introduces a privileged hierarchical structure in
anyway, just something that people get used to and then they know which
nodes are parts of which group. The 'maps' will provide this
information initially and familiarity will come in time - but longer
term this might serve as a wise decision if we become part of a greater,
national mesh.???

I'm just throwing my thoughts in for what they are worth.

PS - I like maps too. Where will they be published?

I agree on the sentiment of not doing pop ups and the like. In a
shameful former life I was involved with developing such things -
they are a very hard sell, generate confusion and return very little
cash.

But as for naming the nodes: each node has to have a network id eg.
my ESSID is 15waterside. This id gets transmitted over wireless. This
gives a client a choice of which network (node) to join. My Mac OSX
simply connects to what it finds first and displays the ESSID, a pull
down menu is shown with alternative networks. ALso we need to
advertise the geography of our networks in maps. My suggestion was to
create this ESSID name as a reward for sponsorship.
