I was pointing out that making money out of wireless AP has been much
harder than anyone with fistfuls of venture cash anticipated; most
struggled and failed. Whereas shoestring community based groups have
been very successful.

Think of it like roads, power, telecoms: these are/were nationalised;
until everyone has them and takes them for granted, the benefits that
are built upon these infrastructures are not to be found. If you are
the only person in the world with a fax machine, it is not going to
be very useful.
