I agree about that the art of persuasion is lost on the conscientious
security guard.
At HBOSplc we are continually renewing kit. We throw out lots of
redundant PC's frequently, in fact I know there is a warehouse stocked
full of them now. They are mainly Compaq EVO EN's P3's. I have asked
about these but we have a policy which states staff can't just take them
(security etc.) This means (or did) that some 3rd party got their hands
on them, reconditioned them i.e. wiped the disks and then sold tem back
to staff at discount. This however ceased last year and now no one
seems to know the process for getting these 'redundant' PC's out of the
warehouse and into the hands of the needy.
I'll try again, but I suspect it will be in vain.

The 12th July is in the future ... it hasn't happened yet.
The TechSW refered to was a commercial technology show in Bristol, which
just taught them lessons about being organised and to ensure there were
enough people available on the day.

Businesses do chuck out perfectly good machines into skips now-and-again

convincing the jobs-worth security guard that by taking the stuff away
that it will not only be useful elsewhere but you're saving them money

saved landfill tax is a different matter ...
