I think it would also be good if we could do a few
demonstrations of things that people could do if they
joined the wireless network. I guess this is already
shown with the network gaming event, but i think we
need more than that to get people interested -
especially if those people arent interested in games.
We should try to include a few things that would
appeal to several different user groups. A few
possiblities are:
1) Fast streaming of high quality radio/web broadcast
- we can broadcast music from the java lounge to all
the computers at in on the bridge etc.
2) IRC network - easy way for everybody to communicate
with everybody at the event.
3) A small intranet showing the days agenda and some
possiblities of what could be shown when the network
becomes larger.
4) File sharing. P2P and/or FTP.
5) Maybe a few lectures about wi-fi and how it works
on the radio or on IRC.
6) Demonstration of chat programs that would work over
a wireless network - maybe anybody else who has a mac
can help me show people how to use iChat AV to talk
across a network. Then maybe some other cool mac
programs like Hydra - which allows several users to
edit the same document in real time.
Umm i wonder if theres anything anybody else can come
up with. I think the more things we can do, to make
people realise what they can do over this wireless
network, the better.
We should maybe also do some range checks so we can
see which wi-fi cards will be best for others to use.
Jacob.
