Ok, what do I need to bring?
I only have one spare test machine at the moment.
Compaq Deskpro EN Series SFF
Pentium III 550E MHZ
128MB RAM
I have one available PCI slot.
O\S REDHAT v8.0 (Bare Minimum Install)
1.01GB HD
Rob gave me another HD which I think is 4GB. Does anyone fancy
installing \ Configuring a full Linux install for me on the that disk?
For that matter, will we have time?
I suppose for purely selfish reasons I would like someone to run a full
Linux install on new disk, configure it for wireless (therefore I will
need to borrow a pcmci\pci for the day) and get the box wireless ready
by the end of the day. I'd like to come away with a box that only
requires me to fit a new wireless card when I get home and I'm away!
Whats the proposed format for the day?
As a starter for 10. read on. As I have no idea what we are proposing
to do or how different people view the day, I can only give it a wild
stab. The day plan looks a bit formal and it needn't be at all
(obviously coffee\tea, fag breaks and all that stuff will really happen
as and when people please.so it should). I do want to get an idea
though for how much we have to do and how long it will take. I think
the plan below is fairly basic but shows how easily the day could be
filled.
10:00 Arrive \ Coffee \ Confirm test area(s) with staff (what time does
the lava lounge open?)
10:20 Unload cars and bring in equipment (can we all park behind the
lounge to minimise distance with heavy loads?)
10:30 Commence Install of the test environment
- Place untis to desk \ connect power
- Fit any additional hardware e.g. wi-fi cards
- 11:00 Power Up \ Boot \ Run Installs\Config where\if required
- 12:30 Checkpoint (are we all ready to go) & Coffee
- 12:35 System Test.with more coffee
- 13:00 Checkpoint (was test succesful)..still with coffee
13:05 Break for lunch (Do we need to pre-order?)
14:00 Commence demonstrations (what exactly are we going to do here????)
- 14:00 Basic P2P con demonstration e.g. file sharing
- 14:15 Multi-Player Gaming
15:00 Gaming Demo ends \ break for coffee
15:30 Commence Test Env Decomission i.e. Pack up and go home (knackered
I expect)
....Evening do????
Whatever. I am generally happy to sit on couches all day smoking and
would be happy to represent the club's more relaxed ethos. I might even
be the clubs equivelent to a Bez, only with rather less energy i.e. has
absolutely no skills to offer but is happy to blend in. Only 8 days to
go!!!!!!!!
